F/A-18 Hornet Walkthrough

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is the premier carrier fighter of the United States Navy as well as the jet flown by the famous aerial demonstration team, the Blue Angels. F/A-18 Hornet is also the name of a Flash game that puts you in control of one of these powerful jets. Instead of flying for the United States Navy, you fly for the Royal Australian Air Force in this airplane game.

The goal of F/A-18 Hornet is to complete your mission objectives given before each mission. There are five preliminary training missions which will help you learn how to play. You do not have to complete your training, but I advise you to do so before playing the combat missions, especially if this is your first time playing this airplane game. Your progress is not saved, so you will have to complete the game in one session.

F/A-18 Hornet uses a simple mouse control scheme. Move your mouse to control your jet. Your Hornet will not instantly move into position as you move your mouse, so you will have to compensate by beginning your motions in advance. To fire your weapons in this airplane game, click the left mouse button. You may toggle between guns and missiles by pressing the control key. Missiles take a few seconds to lock before they can be fired.

The campaign missions of F/A-18 Hornet are quite challenging, especially those involving air-to-air combat. It would be no surprise if it took most players multiple attempts just to pass the first level! This is why the training missions are so important in this airplane game. Play through the training missions a few times to learn the controls and improve your reflexes. Once you think that you are ready, you can try your skills on the actual missions.

F/A-18 Hornet may be a recruitment tool for the Royal Australian Air Force, but it is a well-made airplane game nonetheless. The extreme challenge of this airplane game may make it daunting for some gamers, but this difficulty gives you a simulated taste of the rigors of modern air combat!
